Guidelines

To use this site to submit an application, you must send us an email by Clicking Here (mail[at]newmusiconthepoint[dot]com). State your full name and the category to which you wish to apply (Composition, Instrumental, Vocal). We will then send you a password that will grant you access to the application form.

2019 Applications will be accepted from December 15 until February 1 (11:59PM, EST)

Applicants should be between the ages of 18 and 35.  Exceptions to the age criterion will be considered on a case-by-case basis.  

Online Submissions Only

To submit an application, you must send us an email stating your full name and the category to which you wish to apply (Composition, Instrumental, Vocal, Chamber Ensemble). We will then send you a username and password that will grant you access to the application form. If you do not hear back within 24 hours, please re-send your request.

It is possible to apply in more than one category. Please specify this when you request a password. You must fill out the both application forms (duplicate information is acceptable, but please submit different work samples for each application). Composition Applicants

Audition requirements: 3 different original works with scores (pdf) and recordings (mp3 or internet links). MIDI is acceptable. These are to be uploaded by clicking on the "Create new Composer Application" button on the FRONT PAGE. (If you have already started an online application, you can resume working on it by clicking on your name in the 'View/Continue My Application' box on the upper right of this page.)

  • Composition assignments made: March 18
  • Festival composition participants will write a new chamber composition for an assigned instrumental/vocal group (up to 5 players). This new composition will be due by May 1.

Instrumental Applicants (winds, strings, saxophone, percussion, classical guitar, piano) 

Chamber Ensemble Applicants (string quartet and other chamber ensembles: 2-5 players of any instrumentation)

Audition requirements: two contrasting pieces written after 1900. At least one piece should be post-1950. Recordings are to be uploaded (or internet links listed) by clicking on the "Create new Instrumental Application" button on the FRONT PAGE. (If you have already started an online application, you can resume working on it by clicking on your name in the 'View/Continue My Application' box on the upper right of this page.)

Note: String quartets and chamber ensembles (open instrumentation) must submit one application as a pre-formed group. Recordings must be of the same players who are applying. String quartets may be asked to audition for the JACK Quartet in person or via Skype. Individual players who would like to be considered for admission separate from the group should submit their own application.

    Vocal Applicants
    (soprano, mezzo-soprano, alto, contralto, countertenor, tenor, baritone, bass-baritone, bass)

    Audition requirements: 1 art song or aria from the standard repertoire and 1 20th or 21st century art song or aria, preferably written after 1950 and in English. These are to be uploaded (or internet links listed) by clicking on the "Create new Vocal Application" button on the FRONT PAGE. (If you have already started an online application, you can resume working on it by clicking on your name in the 'View/Continue My Application' box on the upper right of this page.)

    Audition options: Vocal arts applicants who are finalists may be asked for skype or live auditions. We will contact you to make arrangements if live or Skype auditions are necessary.

    Fees, Payments, Refunds:

    Fee: $2,600 ($2,000 for tuition and $600 for shared accommodations/three meals per day)

    Information about financial aid will be communicated with accepted participants in early March.  Partial merit scholarships will be given to a select number of participants.  

    Accepted participants must send a $500 deposit by March 1 to reserve a space.

    Deposits are not refundable after March 24, except in cases of documented medical emergency.

    The balance of fees is due in full no later than May 1.

    Past participants who attend will have the $50 application fee deducted from their 2019 tuition payment.
